The DA in Mbombela has written to the MMC of Technical Service, Dan Mkhatshwa, requesting him to address the ongoing sewage contamination that flows into the Crocodile River.
Following an oversight, we have learnt that raw sewage has been continuously flowing into the river, contaminating the surrounding ecosystem and seeping into a stream that leads the Crocodile River.
The DA observed sewage gushing into the river, after we visited the site. It was appalling to see sewage running into the Crocodile River and the stench filled the air.
This issue is not new; a similar contamination occurred in 2017, and authorities have failed to implement lasting solutions. The DA demands an immediate investigation into the cause and a plan to stop further sewage discharge and remediate the affected stream.
The DA will continue to monitor the situation and engage with relevant authorities to ensure accountability and the protection of our communities. We urge residents to report any further incidents of water contamination to their local DA representatives.
