Press Statement by Hannah Peachey: DA Councillor in Msukaligwa Local Municipality
-The DA in Msukaligwa seeks accountability over stalled road maintenance projects.
-It is now 19-months later and residents in Wards 3 and 5 still face hazardous road conditions.
-We call on the Municipal Manager to intervene and take accountability.

The Democratic Alliance in Msukaligwa will write to the Municipal Manager, Maqhawe Kunene, calling for accountability on road maintenance projects that were supposed to have started almost two years ago.
Amid dilapidating road conditions that pose a serious threat to motorists, the municipality communicated their intention to undertake necessary road repairs in February 2025.
However, despite this commitment, residents throughout the municipality are plagued by incomplete roads, eroded road surfaces and widespread potholes. In Wards 3 and 5 residents have said that they continue to drive on hazardous roads, despite reporting the issue to the municipality on numerous occasions.
The fact that the municipality was unable to address dilapidating roads in the space of two years reflects more than just a pothole issue; it reflects a systemic failure in the municipality’s planning, budgeting and execution processes.
In addition to worsening road conditions, the municipality failed to attend to illegal dumping and unsanitary living conditions that was reported several times by the residents of 1st RTE and Davel Street in Ward 5.
The DA in Msukaligwa is deeply concerned that service delivery has taken a back seat in the municipality as they are failing to attend to the issues that are reported by residents.
A DA government in Msukaligwa will prioritise the municipal budget to ensure regular maintenance and upgrading of roads, intersections, traffic signals and signage to reduce congestion and improve road safety.
Being just 58 days away from elections, we urge the residents of Msukaligwa to make their vote count and vote for a party with a proven track record in turning around ANC failed municipalities.
