Release: Immediate
The DA in Pixley calls on the municipality to urgently attend to potholes in Volkrust and surrounding areas. For years, the municipality has been failing to maintain and upgrade and maintain the roads in this town. As a result, motorists are forced to drive on the sidewalks.
A number of roads in this area need to be either filled with tar and graded. It is concerning to note how the municipality has turned a blind eye to deteriorating roads in this town.
Despite numerous complaints to the municipality, nothing tangible has been done to resolve this issue. This is an indication that the municipality is failing to fulfill its obligations to its residents.
We expect the municipality to create efficient, accessible, safe and sustainable mobility, in urban as well as rural areas of Pixley. The DA reiterates that the municipality is expected to ensure that infrastructure planning and maintenance is carried out with precision.
The municipality’s incompetence in this regard has put the lives of motorists and pedestrians in danger. Motorists driving in Volkrust are forced to make sharp twists and turns. It must be also noted that potholes damage tyres, wheel rims, suspension system, alignment and the undercarriage of the vehicle.
Noting these challenges, we urge the municipality to assess the nature of decay on the roads in Volkrust and use the correct material and machinery for repairs. Residents must also be provided with a clear timeline road maintenance.
Dr Pixley residents need to know that the DA is the only viable party that will ensure that budgets are prioritised for upgrading of road infrastructure through grants, including the MIG and leveraging private partnerships where appropriate.
The DA will continue to hold the municipality accountable and advocate for proper service delivery for residents of this municipality. The people of Dr Pixley deserve safe functional roads and a government that respects its duty to serve.
