DA appeals to the NPA to bring justice for slain Cefups learner

18 July 2016

Release: immediate

The Democratic Alliance has written to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) requesting that they pursue all avenues to ensure justice for the family of Paballo Seane, a learner who died mysteriously at Cefups Academy.

Seanne was a learner at Cefups Academy when she died in 2014 after she was allegedly beaten with a sjambok by the school principal for doing badly in a test.

The DA welcomes the decision by the provincial SAPS to elevate this case to the NPA, ensuring that Seanne and her family receive justice for this evil act.

The DA has requested the NPA to ensure that no stone is left unturned so that the guilty party/parties are brought to book and to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

The DA urges the NPA to prioritise the investigation to ensure that Paballo Seanne’s death was not in vain and to prevent any other similar incidents from occurring in Mpumalanga schools again.

Despite numerous allegations of corporal punishment and the death of Seanne, the school was allowed to continue functioning because the Education HOD had not followed the correct procedure in withdrawing Cefups Academy’s registration as an independent school.
