Press Statement by – James Masango DA Mayoral Candidate Govan Mbeki Local Municipality
The DA in Govan Mbeki demands action from the municipality
Service delivery is non-existent and this inconveniences the livelihoods of residents
The DA will keep fighting for functionality
The Democratic Alliance in Govan Mbeki has submitted seven motions in council aimed at addressing service delivery failures.
This demonstrates the DA’s commitment to residents by taking practical action and fighting for change in our communities.
These motions speak to infrastructure challenges and community safety concerns for residents in Secunda, Bethal, Embalenhle and Kinross.
The motions submitted include:
The unfair blocking of electricity meters without prior notice to residents.
The lack of sewer infrastructure maintenance in Bethal.
Regravelling of roads in the Bethal plots areas.
The rehabilitation of the old Kinross Club and surrounding municipal buildings.
The rehabilitation of roads and sidewalks in Ward 30, Secunda.
The safety and maintenance of electrical infrastructure and electrical boxes across the municipality.
The growing problem of illegal dumping in Lebohang.
The eradication and replacement of asbestos roofing in Embalenhle.
These motions are based on real concerns raised by residents who are tired of broken infrastructure, poor maintenance, unsafe living conditions and a municipality that too often fails to deliver basic services.
The DA believes that Council should be used as a platform to hold the administration accountable and to drive solutions that improve the daily lives of residents. While others make excuses, the DA continues to put forward practical proposals and fight for action.
The DA remains committed to pursuing this matter and ensuring that residents receive answers regarding the long-delayed reservoir project.
We will not let incapable deployees of the ANC deprive residents of service. The municipality needs to start taking accountability, residents must be taken seriously and visible action should be implemented without delay. We will not relent until the necessary changes are made.
We will continue to monitor the progress of these matters, engage with the administration and keep residents informed every step of the way. We will keep fighting until this municipality becomes functional and works for all residents.
