The DA in Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme is pleased to note that the municipality has agreed to review their tariff structures.

Recently, the DA tabled a motion calling on the municipality to evaluate a recent tariff hike that was implemented  to compensate for its ongoing failure to collect and manage revenue effectively.

Our motion sought to correct municipal accounts, dating back to the 1st of July 2024, reimburse residents for these unfair increases and to abolish the unjust sewer tariffs.

Council has since resolved to hold a ordinary council meeting in January to address fair adjustments of municipal tariffs.

The DA is concerned with the additional sewer tariffs which double-charged residents for water consumption, while the basic sewer tariff has also been increased by 4.9%.

The municipality’s tariff hike placed undue financial pressure on our residents who are already burdened with other high utility bills.

The municipality should prioritise their revenue collection systems and work towards improving their finances. Escalating tariffs is not a solution to these long standing issues.

The DA remains committed to sound financial management, fair governance, and accountability. We look forward to the upcoming special council sitting, where we will strongly advocate for these necessary corrections in the interest of transparency and fairness for all the residents of Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme.
