It has been a week since the Democratic Alliance in Mpumalanga launched its #MayorBosman Campaign in Steve Tshwete Local Municipality and we believe pushing the ANC numbers under 50% is realistically achievable.
The overwhelmingly positive response towards our campaign from residents is inspiring and proof that the residents of Steve Tshwete are ready for change.
In the coming weeks, the DA will put alternative plans on the table in order to show residents what difference a DA government will make.
Our first two priorities as a DA government in the local municipality of Steve Tshwete will be
• To make the CBD safe again, and
• To improve service delivery at the municipal office.
These efforts will benefit the local economy in town. People will be able to find employment again in a safe CBD and focus on making a living and providing for their families instead of worrying about their safety.
We believe that by implementing the blueprint of what has already been successfully implemented in the City of Cape Town, the CBD can be safe again within 100 days of taking office in this Municipality.
The blueprint entails amongst other things that a few by-laws need to be made. The municipality will need to appoint municipal by-law officers, train, equip and capacitate them, and give them the power to do certain duties. A municipal court will ensure swift prosecution and if there is a consequence for breaking the law, criminals will reconsider their activities in Steve Tshwete.
It is also important to connect the CCTV cameras to a control room that is linked with the CPF and SAPS.
We believe in a responsive government that serves the needs of our citizens. If public representatives and administration take hands to serve citizens, our residents will have a better experience at the municipal offices.
Friendly, efficient service from the administration in the municipal building will create a better trust relationship between the government and the citizens.
The DA is the party that can put alternative solutions on the table for the citizens of this municipality to make an informed decision.
