The DA in Emalahleni calls on the MMC of Technical Service Martha Hlumbane, to engage residents and provide a detailed action plan on the continuous water outages.

Residents of ward 20 and surrounds have faced dreadful water interruptions, at the hands of the municipality.

Last week residents of this area had prolonged water outages due to a pump that had to be sent for repairs. Residents had to endure six long days without water, which is absolutely unacceptable.

We have learnt that Point A Reservoir is currently servicing more consumers areas than it can supply, leading to a high demand.

High-lying areas are the most affected, with water outages occurring daily during peak consumption times; early mornings from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM and afternoons during similar peak periods.

The municipality is failing to consistently dispatch water tankers to provide relief to the affected community. Despite requests, not a single tanker has been sent to assist residents.

The DA demands that the municipality:

  • Expedite the repairs of their pumps and ensure immediate measures are in place to prevent future disruptions.
  • Dispatch water tankers without delay to provide relief to the affected areas.
  • Develop a comprehensive contingency plan to address water outages in the future.
  • Establish clear lines of timely communication to keep residents informed.
  • Prioritize high-lying areas and monitor reservoir levels
  • Review and upgrade pumping systems

Emalahleni residents have endured suffering for far too long under the ANC administration.

The DA will continue to fight for water, for residents, we will not relent until these issues are resolved and measures are implemented to prevent a recurrence.
