The DA in Mpumalanga congratulates the class of 2024 for their outstanding performance. Thank you to every learner, teacher, parent, family, friends and society that have become the rock in supporting their learners.
The Class of 2024 have had numerous challenges as they started Secondary school in 2020 with COVID-19. These learners and teachers showed that being resilient and with hard work and discipline goals and dreams can be realized.
Mpumalanga have visibly increased their performance from 76,95% to 84,99%, a 7.9% increase. Bohlabela District being blamed that with their 69.1% in 2023 ensured that Mpumalanga were last in the country, have put in the hard work and discipline in 2024 and have improved their final result to 78.6% in 2024. Well done.
Every district in Mpumalanga have increased their final results. Bohlabela District increased with 9.5%, Ehlanzeni District with 6.6%, Gert Sibande District with 8.8% and Nkangala District with 9.8%.
Although 43.4% of learners passed with Bachelors, 27.7 % of learners passed with Diploma and 14 % passed with Higher Certificate, one of the focus points should be to increase these percentages.
Noteworthy, the class of 2024 improved the pass rate in Mathematics and Physical Sciences. The Mathematics pass rate increased from 50.9% in 2023 to 66.37% in 2024 and Physical Science increased from 60% in 2023 to 73.69% in 2024
Having good results doesn’t mean that we can rest now. It is of great importance to create strategies for the foundation phase to ensure that once our learners from Grade R to Grade 3 arrives in Grade 4 they have acquired the skill to read for meaning.
The DA is confident that this group will excel in the next phase of their journeys and we wish them the very best in their future endeavors.
With this in mind, the DA acknowledges those who were unable to obtain the National Senior Certificate at first attempt. We encourage them to re-visit their schools and register to rewrite their examinations.
