The DA in Steve Tshwete has submitted a letter to the Executive Mayor, Mhlonishwa Masilela, urging him to address critical service delivery issues in the municipality.
It must be noted that service delivery in Steve Tshwete is slowly deteriorating. On a daily basis, residents are confronted with power outages, water supply shortages and maintenance challenges.
The DA finds it concerning that despite multiple complaints and requests for assistance from residents, the municipality has turned a blind eye to the issues that are faced on the ground.
In our letter that was submitted, we called on the municipality to urgently attend to the following issues:
Repair streetlights and apollo lights: The municipality should identify wards with malfunctioning lighting infrastructure and attend to it, this will enhance the safety of residents.
Water supply shortages: Water tankers should be prioritised until a long-term solution is implemented.
Electricity infrastructure: Ensure that there is regular maintenance at all our electrical substations.
Community engagement: Update the community consistently and provide timelines on when certain projects will conclude.
We will not sit back and watch Steve Tshwete residents bear the brunt of poor service delivery. It is disheartening to witness the suffering of our residents, while their government is playing hide and seek. The DA would like to reiterate that this is no time for petty politics, Steve Tshwete is becoming dysfunctional.
We urge the municipality to engage with residents and demonstrate commitment and leadership required to restore confidence in the delivery of essential services.
