The DA in Govan Mbeki is disappointed with the outcome of the Motion of no Confidence against the Executive Mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma.

The final vote revealed a stark division in council, with 22 councillors, including those from the DA, Freedom Front Plus (FF+), Azanian Residents Party (ARP), and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), voting in favour of the mayor’s removal.

However, the African National Congress (ANC) and the African Transformation Movement (ATM) came together to protect the failing administration, with 27 votes against the motion.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) chose to abstain from voting, once again, they have failed to take a stand on an issue that directly affects the people of Govan Mbeki. .

The DA’s motion was motivated by the ongoing service delivery failures in the municipality. We reiterate that residents of Govan Mbeki have suffered for too long under the ANC administration plagued by inefficiency and incompetence.

Despite the motion not passing, the DA remains undeterred. This motion was never about political battles, but the improvement of services for residents of Govan Mbeki.

The DA remains resolute, through this motion, we have sent a strong message to Zuma that incompetence and negligence will not go unchallenged.

As we approach the 2026 local government elections, we will continue to mobilise support and expose the failures of this administration. The DA remains the only party capable of delivering real change and restoring good governance in this municipality.
