The DA in Govan Mbeki welcomes the municipality’s adoption of our motion to connect 16 RDP houses in Embalenhle to bulk services.
Despite the houses being handed over in 2016, we recently learnt that the residents occupying these houses were without bulk water supply and electricity.
Since 2016, these residents were inconvenienced without electricity, water and a proper drainage system to carry and dispose of waste. Noting the above, the DA, tabled in a motion, calling on the municipality to install these utility services at affected houses.
The DA’s adopted motion also requested the municipality to review the billing system as these residents were said to be owing exorbitant amounts to the municipality, although they did not have access to water and electricity.
In response, the municipality communicated that the tariffs charges at these households were correct as they were charged according to the tariff policy.
Ultimately, the municipality confirmed that operational and maintenance budgets will be used to purchase the material needed to connect these houses to bulk services. Furthermore, they committed to maintain contact with the affected residents and to inform them of plans to connect these homes to bulk services.
The DA will closely monitor proceedings at these households. We will not relent until these services are fully installed and operational in these houses. The DA remains the only viable solution for residents of Govan Mbeki.
