The DA in Victor Khanye will write to the Municipal Manager, Thabo Mashabela and his administrative staff to strengthen the municipality’s revenue collection policies and urgently devise a new payment proposal with Rand Water.
This comes after the water supply company indicated that they will reduce the bulk potable water supply by 20%, leaving the municipality with 80% of its supply. The water reduction will be effective from the 17th of September.
Noting that areas like Sundra, Eloff and Rietkol amongst others will be badly affected by this throttling, we submitted a petition to Rand Water asking them to reconsider and strike an agreement with the municipality.
Rand Water has now informed us that they rejected the municipality’s proposed payment plan due to their past experience with the municipality. Once again, the ANC administration has proven to be untrustworthy.
In a letter sent to the DA, Rand Water stated that in July the municipality made a payment of R2 million. An amount that the Bulk Water Supply Company (BWSC) described as ‘significantly less’ than the amount they agreed upon in the repayment plan.
Notably, Rand Water has also revealed that the municipality has not requested that certain pipelines should be exempted from the reduction. This speaks volumes of the kind of public servants we have in Victor Khanye.
Residents deserve to know that appointing skilled administrators with a proven track record is one important element in any sphere of government. The ANC administration in Victor Khanye is out of their depth.
The DA calls on the municipality’s hierarchy to engage with Rand Water and find a solution. We will continue holding the ANC government to account. Ratepayers will not suffer because of the ANC’s incompetency.
