The Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (DASO) in Mpumalanga is confident that the Department of Higher Education and Training will act decisively against a syndicate operating at Nkangala Tvet College, Mpondozankomo campus.

We have requested the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training ,Dr Mimmy Gondwe, to investigate acts of corruption at the institution and ensure that students are enrolled on merit. Subsequent to this request, Gondwe has vowed to send the department’s Director General for investigations.

This comes after we obtained proof of payment receipts, voice recordings and messages indicating that a staff member at the institution allegedly solicited money, through their private bank account from an NGO that intended to register students.

Over the years, students complained to the DASO office that certain administrators and lecturers at the institution were requesting money to fast track their registration process and allocate them space in various courses.

We have gathered that officials at the institution are at the forefront of this mischievous scheme which has blocked qualifying students from registering because of their financial inability.

The state of our Tvet Colleges is deteriorating at the hands of administrators who are self centered. This has negatively affected students who are serious about their education.

DASO Mpumalanga will continue to fight this corruption and make sure that students are allocated space based on merit. We condemn this unethical behavior carried out by irresponsible administrators and leaders.

We will closely monitor the investigations. Everyone implicated in corrupt activities should face the full might of the law.
