The DA in Govan Mbeki has written to the MEC of CoGTA, Mandla Msibi to institute an investigation into the incomplete RDP houses in Embalenhle.

Despite being handed over in 2016, the houses are still without sewer systems, water pipes and no electricity installation was done.

The standards of a RDP house indicates that these properties should be designed and capable of carrying wasteful waste and discharge it into a common drainage system.

Recently, we discovered that some of these properties owe more than R15,000 in utility bills, yet they do not receive such services.

During an oversight, the residents expressed their concerns and  dissatisfaction with the Department of Human Settlement and the municipality. The residents stated that the government has stripped them of their dignity.

This goes to show that the municipality has turned a blind eye to the data captured in the Integrated Development Planning handbook. This is where the needs and grievances of these residents have been highlighted.

One would expect RDP houses to improve the livelihood of citizens. However, under the incompetent ANC government, this has been an unpleasant experience for the elderly occupying these houses.

Despite several complaints to the municipality and the provincial government, nothing has been done to rectify this conundrum. Meanwhile, the agony and misery continues for the residents occupying these houses.

The DA will not relent until the department investigates this matter until these houses are complete. The DA remains the only viable solution for residents of Govan Mbeki.
