The DA in Nkomazi has laid criminal charges against the municipality’s executive mayor, Phindile Magagula at Schoemansdal Police Station.

This comes after Magagula made startling revelations that she made a payment of over R40,000 for illicit connection of electricity to her place of residence in Aniva.

The mayor further confirmed that her household has been electrified in this manner, even before she became the mayor.

The Mayor’s admission signals the level of corruption that is perpetuated by the ANC government. The DA finds the mayor’s conduct very dishonorable and unethical. For years, the municipality has been battling with cable copper theft without any tangible solution.

This explains why the municipality has been reluctant in finding a long-term solution to cable theft, despite the fact that replacing stolen cables costs millions of unbudgeted rands.

One would expect the municipality’s executive mayor to speak against this and try to eliminate it. But, ironically, the mayor is allegedly championing this illegal conduct.

It has become widely publicized that a large amount of electricity purchased from Eskom by our municipalities is not being sold. This is mainly attributed to illegal connection and non-payment of electricity.

It is even concerning to note that residents of Aniva are still living without electricity, while the mayor is illegally connected to the grid. This is an indication that the ANC leaders are not in power to serve residents.

We will continue fighting the ANC’s maladministration, residents of Nkomazi have suffered for too long under the current administration and only the DA is capable of taking the municipality back to its glory.
