The Democratic Alliance (DA), through its Shadow Minister of Employment and Labour, will write to the Department (of Labour) asking it to intervene in Mkhondo Local Municipality where hundreds of people are struggling to get help from their local labour offices.

Many people flock to the local labour offices every-day needing help with labour issues including Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) claims, but more often than not, they are not helped.

The DA has been made aware that 1000’s of applications are not attended to at the offices of labour in Mkhondo as their registration scanners are not functional. Applications as far back as Nov 2021 have not been registered, a situation that cannot be allowed to continue.

Community members arrive as early as 2h00 in the morning and are sometimes sent back home unattended.  Mothers with babies stand in queues for hours not receiving any help financially where they made monthly contributions to this department.

Through our Shadow Minister of Employment and Labour, Dr Michael Cardo, we will write to the department and its Chief Director, Margaret Mazibuko, to intervene immediately and attend to this matter as the residents deserve better.

DA demands immediate intervention from the Chief Director of this department.
