The DA calls on the Nkomazi Local Municipality to urgently intervene in the grievances of employees who have cut off water supply to the community.

Angry municipal employees embarked on an illegal protest last week, closing all water treatment plants which has cut off water supply to the community.

As much as we understand the employees’ right to protest to voice their grievances, the DA cannot condone any form of intimidation, violence and destruction of property.

We believe that the municipality should engage these workers in a constructive manner with swiftness as their actions are affecting the residents who have to go without water for days.

As a country we are faced with a possible third wave of Covid-19 and we cannot afford for residents not to have access to water.

We urge the municipality administration to engage constructively with the employees to resolve the grievances of the employees.

Residents of Nkomazi cannot continue to suffer and not have water. Without water the lives of residents remain at risk.
