The DA calls on the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality to take the necessary measures and install a mass light (Apollo) at Ward 22 cemetery.

Residents have long called on the municipality to assist with installing an Apollo light as they are struggling to dig graves at night for their deceased family members.

Currently, residents use their cars for lights, while some use cell-phones.

In addition, the crime in this community is rife and the Apollo is also meant to assist residents to quickly identify thieves but it remains non-existent.

The municipality previously installed a similar light in the yard of top ANC official, Speedy Mashilo. When the DA questioned why an Apollo light was installed in his yard while the community struggles; the Executive Mayor, Nomsa Mtshweni said this was advised by a consultant.

It is a disgrace how government continues to prioritize the interests of ANC officials while poor citizens suffer.

Where the light is currently situated, it only benefits one individual and is of no help to the community. Mashilo’s house is far from the cemetery and the light does not reach.

The DA will write to the mayor requesting for a new Apollo light to be installed in Ward 22 cemetery urgently.

It is only a DA-led government that can prioritize rendering good services to the people.
