Reappointment of Lekwa Mayor and Speaker a clear indication that the ANC does not care about the people

Yesterday the Democratic Alliance (DA) learnt that the ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), that has no decision making in the Lekwa Council, has ordered the ANC Caucus to re-elect the Mayor, Lindokuhle Dlamini and Speaker, Harriet Khota who were removed in a motion of no confidence.

This decision is a blatant and clear indication that the ANC only cares about the ANC and not the people who continue to suffer at the incapable hands of the current administration which is failing dismally at service delivery and the running of the municipality.

The current state of the town is a testament to how incapable the Mayor and Speaker are of delivering services.

So what is it really that the ANC PEC sees in these two for them to reinstate them?

It is also shocking that President Cyril Ramaphosa was in Standerton on Sunday 23 February but failed to address issues of this collapsing municipality.

The delinquent behaviour of the ANC PEC has proven that even the President has no control over his own party members and that the divide amongst themselves has become detrimental to the wellbeing of the community.

The DA unreservedly disapproves and does not support the decision to reinstate the Mayor and Speaker.

The DA calls on MEC of Cogta, Mr. Mandla Msibi to urgently release the section 106 investigation report that was requested in Council to probe alleged corruption and maladministration.

It is of great importance now more than ever for that report to be tabled back to Council as a matter of urgency.

The community has the right to know of any mismanagement that directly impacts the delivery of services to them as a result of corruption and or otherwise.
