DA Mpumalanga would like to congratulate its whip, Honourable Bosman Grobler, for being the only member out of 9-provincial legislatures selected to represent the South African Parliamentary Rugby Club at the 2019 Inter-parliamentary World Cup in Japan.

The DA is proud of Honourable Grobler for this milestone. Being selected the only MPL out of nine (9) Provincial Legislatures to represent South Africa at such an event is an achievement not only to Honourable Grobler, but to the Democratic Alliance (DA) as well.

Honourable Grobler is a distinguished member of the South African Parliamentary Rugby Club (SAPRC), a club that consists of members of parliament (MPs) and members of provincial legislatures (MPLs) from different parties, staff from the library, committees, household services, communications, alongside bodyguards, and ex MPs who are included under the rules allowing guests players.

For the 2019 Parliamentary Rugby World Cup, SAPRC is sending 32 representatives to Japan. Honourable Grobler is the only one selected from provincial legislatures while the rest are from the National Assembly.

The 2019 Inter-parliamentary World Cup games will be played at the City of Yokohama from 13 until September 20. The games include a total of 300 players representing 10 legislatures from South Africa, New Zealand, France, Wales, Scotland, England, Ireland, Argentina, Australia, and the host Japan.

SAPRC takes part in the Inter-Parliamentary Rugby World Cup which takes place every four (4) years just before the IRB (International Rugby Board) Rugby World Cup.

They (SAPRC) first took part in the inaugural Parliamentary Rugby World Cup which was held in Cape Town in 1995. In 2011 they became runners up to New Zealand.

They also participated in the 2015 Parliamentary World Cup in the United Kingdom which was eventually won by the Australian Parliamentary Sporting Club (the current champions).

The DA wishes SAPRC all the luck in Japan this year, and we hope they can defeat their nemesis Australia and New Zealand to bring the trophy home.
