The Democratic Alliance (DA) strongly condemns the brutal murder of five women that were found buried in shallow graves at a yard belonging to a 25-year old suspect at Masoyi near Hazyview.
According to disturbing news reports, five women’s bodies were exhumed within the last month in Masoyi village (near Hazyview) at the backyard belonging to Julius Thabiso Mndawe, a 25-year old man.
Mndawe who was arrested last month allegedly confessed to have raped, killed and buried the bodies of the five victims who are between the ages of 14 and 24. Three of the bodies were only found this Sunday (14 July) while two were found three weeks ago.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Masoyi Periodical Court or the White-River Magistrate Court on Wednesday 17 July to face charges of rape, murder and concealment of murder. He is expected to apply for bail.
The DA will attend the court proceedings where we will picket against the abuse of women.
The DA will also like to send its heartfelt condolences to the families of the five victims. We will be with them throughout the court case.
The DA cannot stand such rampant abuse of women. It is obvious that the suspect in this case is a threat to society. A person of this character cannot be released back into our society.
According to unconfirmed reports, the police suspect that more bodies might be recovered, buried in Mndawe’s backyard, as a number of women are still missing in the area.
Should Mndawe be found guilty of these charges, he should be given the maximum penalty that he deserves.
