#16 Days of Activism: Let’s condemn the killing of our young women
by James Masango MPL – DA Leader in the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature
Date: 25 November 2016
Release: Immediate
Type: Press Statement
Note to editors: The following motion without notice was delivered by DA Leader in the Provincial Legislature, James Masango MPL, during a sitting of the Legislature today.
Honorable Speaker.
I rise to move a motion without notice on behalf of the Democratic Alliance, noting that:
Today marks the start of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children which takes place every year from November 25 to December 10.
Further noting Hon. Speaker that this house should strongly condemn the actions of former ANC Youth League Leader Patrick Wisani who sjambokked his girlfriend Nosipho Mandeleleni to death and has been found guilty of his girlfriend’s murder by the High Court in Johannesburg this week.
The 24 year-old girlfriend died on the scene as a result of her injuries. What a tragedy for such a young life to be brutally taken away in that way.
While some members are selective in their outrage, the actions of the ANC youth league member Wisani has robbed a young life and she was taken away from her family way too early.
I move that this house:
• Welcome the court’s verdict, that ANC Youth League member Patrick Wisani is guilty of brutally killing Nosipho Mandeleleni.
• Express our utter disgust that such actions are tolerated by those who claim to fight for all, Hon. Speaker, their non-reaction on this horrific incident speaks louder than their silence.
• Commit to coming together and condemn this incident in the strongest way possible as we continue to mourn the brutal killing of this young lady.
I so move.
