Press Statement by – Litesia Van Der Walt DA Councillor in Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality
- Residents of Chief Albert are subjected to deteriorating roads.
- Despite repeated calls and reporting the municipality has done little to fix this.
- We have asked the Municipal Manager to look into this.

The DA in Chief Albert Luthuli calls on the Municipal Manager, Ephraim Thabethe, to urgently communicate with the Technical Service Department to repair potholes on Cardinaal Street and Kerk Street.
Over the past few months, the DA has been inundated with complaints from residents on persistent potholes. This has been repeatedly reported to customer care, yet these reports are consistently met with a lack of acknowledgment, inadequate follow-ups, and significant delays in repairs.
The current condition of these roads is more dangerous than the potholes themselves and illustrates a lack of proper planning and care for the people of Chief Albert.
It must be noted that the state of our roads is not just an inconvenience, it is hazardous. Accidents are likely to become more frequent, vehicles get damaged daily and emergency services are delayed due to impassable sections.
In light of the above, we asked the Municipal Manager’s office takes immediate steps to:
- Implement a Robust Acknowledgment System: Establish a system ensuring that every citizen’s report submitted via email or other channels is promptly acknowledged, complete with a clear timeline for action.
- Enhance Communication Protocols: Ensure that responsible departments provide timely updates regarding the status of each maintenance request, from receipt and scheduling through to completion.
- Restore Community Confidence: Develop and publicise a comprehensive strategy for service delivery improvements, reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of our residents.
Communities cannot continuously be expected to endure unsafe roads, potholes, and declining infrastructure while being presented with repeated explanations instead of clear implementation plans.
The DA reiterates that the municipality has a mandate to maintain infrastructure proactively, manage resources responsibly, and ensure that public funds are utilised effectively to prevent further deterioration.
