The DA in Thaba Chweu will approach the HoD of CoGHSTA, Samkelo Ngubane, to provide clarity on the insufficient progress made with skills audit in the municipality.

In July, Ngubane sent a letter to the municipality informing them that Thaba Chweu would be supported with a skills audit in terms of Local Government Municipal Staff Regulations, 2022.

The letter indicated that all officials were expected to be part of the skills audit. On the 30th of July, a consulting company selected by CoGHSTA was sent to commence with the skills audit.

However, following the recent Corporate Service Portfolio Meeting, we have discovered that only the first of five phases of the skills audit has been completed.

According to a report circulated in this meeting, the remaining four phases are still to commence. Alarmingly, the completion date on these four phases has already passed and the required reports remain incomplete, highlighting significant delays and a lack of progress.

The DA reiterates that Thaba Chweu has become a stronghold for cadre deployment, where appointing ANC aligned individuals irrespective of their experience and qualifications has become a norm.

Prioritising this skills audit is therefore critical to root out corruption and ensure that skilled candidates are appointed on merit to drive service delivery.

We will not tolerate PR gimmicks from the provincial government and the municipality. The DA will ensure that this skills audit is reintroduced and monitor its progress and hold those responsible for delays accountable.
