The DA in Emakhazeni will table a motion calling on the municipality to urgently address the ongoing power and water outages across various communities.
These disruptions have not only impacted the daily lives of residents but have also hindered local businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities.
The repeated power and water cuts have resulted in frustration and uncertainty. The municipality has failed to be transparent and provide clear communication to residents.
It is unacceptable that residents in some parts of the municipality are subject to low water pressure while other parts of the community are without water.
It must be noted that the municipality is also battling with illegal electricity connections. It has become clear that the municipality’s grid is overloaded. Therefore, this calls for continuous inspections and blitz operations.
This municipality’s delayed approach in addressing these challenges is unacceptable, and it has left residents feeling neglected.
Our motion will contain three recommendations, these include:
Provide a clear plan of action: The municipality must outline the root causes of these outages and the measures being taken to resolve them. This plan should include timelines for the restoration of stable power and water services.
Improve communication: Residents deserve regular updates on the status of outages, estimated restoration times and steps being taken to prevent future disruptions.
Invest in long-term infrastructure improvements: The ongoing outages highlight the need for investment in infrastructure maintenance and upgrades to ensure the sustainability of power and water supply in Emakhazeni.
We will not sit back and watch Emakhazeni’s residents bear the brunt of poor service delivery, and we will pursue every available avenue to ensure that these issues are addressed.
The DA stands ready to work with the community and the municipality to find a lasting solution to these challenges. We urge the municipality to engage with stakeholders and demonstrate the commitment and leadership required to restore confidence in the delivery of essential services.
