On Wednesday this week, the DA retained Ward 25 in Secunda, Govan Mbeki municipality with an increased majority in an important by election. It was very clear that voters chose to unite behind the DA once again.

The DA clinched the Ward, having increased our percentage of the vote from 74.30% in the 2021 Local Government Elections to 79.84% in Wedneday’s poll.

Encee van Huyssteen, takes up the position of Ward 25 councillor.

This result shows that voter confidence in the ability of the DA to get things done continues to increase in towns and cities across the province. It is the DA’ track record of honest, transparent and people centred governance that South Africans want where-ever they reside.

We will continue to work tirelessly in Ward 25 and across the entire province of Mpumalanga. We wish our newly elected Ward Cllr, Encee van Huyssteen, the greatest success. We have full confidence that he will continue to deliver on the DA’s values to the community that he is elected to serve.

This victory gives a boost to our momentum in the 2024 general election.

Lastly, we would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Campaign Teams, our staff, our activists and our Public Reps who worked day and night on this by-election. Most of all, thank you so much to every voter who landed their vote to the DA.
