The DA in Mpumalanga welcomes the newly-built ablution facility at the Schoemansdal Clinic. This much-needed facility was finally built following relentless pressure from the DA.
The previous ablution block was not fit for human use.
Following an oversight in January, the DA revealed the dire conditions at this clinic. Staff and community members were left to use pit toilets which were in a bad condition. Toilets were broken and filled to capacity with human waste, causing a horrific smell to fill the clinic.
The conditions were so dire that staff had to use ablution facilities from neighbouring residential houses during working hours.
We urged the Health MEC, Sasekani Manzini, to intervene.
We are happy to announce that new facilities have finally been built. In consultation with government, the Komati Basin Water Authority (KOBWA), a private sponsor, took the challenge and called for tenders to do the project. The successful bidding company is currently on site to put final touches on the drainage system.
The DA thanks the management of KOBWA for taking this initiative of restoring the dignity of the people who use this particular clinic.
The DA will not stop putting pressure on government to provide services to the people.
