Municipal offices in Nkomazi closed without any given reasons

Issued by Cllr: Nhlonipho Given Dlamini – DA Councillor in Nkomazi Local Municipality

The DA has written to Mpumalanga CoGTA MEC, Mandla Ndlovu to intervene as residents of Nkomazi cannot renew vehicle licences, pay for services, nor buy grave-sites as local municipal offices have been closed for four days without any reason given.

What concerns the Democratic Alliance (DA) the most is that council has not been formally informed why municipal offices have been closed for the last four days?

Residents are frustrated as services are halted. They can’t do the following:

–       Garbage remain uncollected

–       Can’t purchase electricity

–       Can’t buy grave sites

–       Can’t get proof of residence

–       Can’t pay water bills

–       Can’t renew vehicle and drivers licences

This is also halting the municipal revenue collection as gates and doors remain locked up.

The DA condemns this in strongest terms. Regardless of the reasons for the closure of municipal offices, Nkomazi communities cannot be held at ransom by the ANC and their internal political crises; hence we have written to MEC Ndlovu to intervene.
